PETERBOROUGH, Ont. – Goals minutes apart by
Luca Coceancigh (Udine, Italy) and
Jose Flores (Ajax, Ont.) were all the Durham College men's soccer team needed to pick up three points and an important 2-1 victory over the Fleming Knights on Saturday.
The Lords went down 1-0 late in the first half to the Knights, trailing by the lone goal at halftime. Fleming did put five shots on goal in the half, while Durham only managed two against Danny Grant.
In the second half Durham's offensive pressure improved as their shot attempts increased from six in the first to 12 in the second. The pressure paid off as Coceancigh tied the game 1-1 in the 72
nd minute when a cross-field pass found him all alone on the right side making it an easy opportunity to beat Grant.
Just minutes later Flores scored off a scramble in the box after a Lords corner kick. With the ball bouncing around the crowd of players he found a way to find the back of the net and give his team the advantage late.
Durham held on as
Mark Kamstra (Newcastle, Ont.) earned the win in goal with six saves. Grant took the loss for Fleming with five saves.
The Lords have the week off as they prepare for back-to-back home games next weekend against St. Lawrence Vikings and Cambrian Golden Shield. Kickoff is 3:15 p.m. on Saturday and 2:15 p.m. on Sunday.
