OSHAWA, Ont. - The Durham College men's volleyball team pulled numerous positives from their opening match of the season, even if it was a 3-0 loss at home to the Mohawk Mountaineers.

As the team prepares for the Humber Cup this weekend, the Lords were in action as they welcomed the Mountaineers to campus on Wednesday night for their first preseason match of the year. Durham opened the night with a 25-19 first set loss to Mohawk, but bounced back and looked like they were going to take the second before falling 26-24.

The Mountaineers continued to roll as they finished the match with a 25-16 third set victory.

Durham's lineup looked much different than last year, but second-year middle Tyler Krabi (Stouffville, Ont.) had a team-high seven points with five kills, block and ace in the match. Damin Noss (Port Perry, Ont.) added three kills, an ace and a block, while Mike Harper (Oakville, Ont.) added four kills and two blocks for the Lords.

Eric Girard led Mohawk with nine kills and two blocks. Their offence was spread out as Cody Charlton, Matt McGirr and Max Anderson contributed seven, six and five kills respectively. Paul Wagner had a game-high three blocks.

This weekend the Lords will travel to the Humber Cup in Etobicoke where they are currently scheduled to face Brock on Friday night, before matches against the Western Mustangs and Humber Hawks on Saturday.

The following weekend Durham College will host the annual men's volleyball Adidas Cup at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Centre on Oct. 7-8.
