ETOBICOKE, Ont. – The Durham College men's volleyball team was unable to earn a victory in their first preseason tournament of the year over the weekend.
An annual participant at the Humber Cup, the Lords went 0-4 in the tournament, which they were 2-3 in last year.
On Friday, they opened with a 3-0 loss to the York Lions, who finished first in the OUA East Division in 2016-17. The Lords lost the opening two sets 25-15 and 25-10, before a stronger third set, which they lost 25-18.
To wrap up the opening day of play, the Lords lost 3-1 to Saint-Jean-Sur-Richelieu, who won the 2015 Adidas Cup at Durham College. Durham lost the opening set 26-24, but battled to take the second 28-26. The third and fourth went to Saint-Jean-Sur-Richelieu 25-16 and 25-21.
On Saturday, needing a win to advance to the final day of the tournament, the Lords were unable to top the Mohawk Mountaineers or Windsor Lancers.
In a rematch of the 2017 OCAA men's volleyball final, Mohawk was the better team on Saturday, although Durham did surprise them with a 25-22 first set win. From there the Mountaineers won 25-20, 25-19 and 25-17 to take the match.
Ending the tournament, Durham was swept 3-0 (17-25, 19-25, 23-25) by the Lancers.
Next weekend the Lords host their annual Adidas Cup at the CRWC. Their first match is 12 p.m. on Friday against the Algonquin Thunder.
