Lords to open Day 2 of Adidas Cup against Gee-Gees

OSHAWA, Ont. – The Durham College men's volleyball team picked up two ties and a loss in day one at Durham College's 2017 Adidas Cup, finishing fourth place in Pool A.

Durham kicked off Pool A action in the noon slot against the Algonquin Thunder, a team that the Lords defeated in both meetings during the 2016-17 OCAA regular season.

The Lords had a strong start in the two-set game as the defeated the Thunder 25-15 and never trailed throughout the entire set. Fortunes would change as Algonquin came out for the second set scoring each of the first nine points. While Durham managed to earn some points of their own, they dropped the second set 25-9.

Loyalist was Durham's second opponent of the afternoon. The Lancers looked to add onto their 2-0 victory over Conestoga earlier in the day.

Like their first game, the Lords took the first set without much issue by a 25-17 score. The second set was a closer affair as both teams traded turns taking the lead, but Loyalist ultimately came out on top 29-27.

In the third and final game of the day, the Lords came out looking for their first victory of the afternoon against a winless Conestoga side. However, the Condors came out motivated winning the first set 25-19 and had a mirror performance in the second set, winning 25-19.

With their fourth place finish, the Lords will be on Court 2 at 9 a.m. on Saturday morning against Pool B's top seeded team – the University of Ottawa Gee-Gees. Ottawa earned a win and two draws in round-robin play.
