OSHAWA, Ont. – A rare meeting for the two teams, Durham College faced the Redeemer Royals in men's volleyball action on Friday night to open their preseason.
After trailing 2-0 to the Royals at last year's OCAA championship, the Lords came back to take the match 3-2 and eventually win a silver medal. In the first match of both team's preseasons, Durham swept the rematch 3-0 (25-20, 25-23, 32-30).
Not a surprise, but
Harrison Wood (Uxbridge, Ont.) led the team in kills with eight. He also picked up three aces.
The first-team all-star was closely trailed by
Spencer Edwards (Vineland, Ont.) and
Erik Janssen (Hampton, Ont.) with six and five kills respectively.
Lucas Pichl (Cobourg, Ont.) had a match-high two blocks.
Redeemer had Brady de Boer, Mitchell Harris and Jeff Ekeanyanwu finish with seven kills apiece. Ekeanyanwu also had a block and an ace.
Durham's preseason will now continue with the Humber Cup next weekend, which is followed the following weekend with the Lords' Adidas Cup. The annual tournament at Durham College will take place October 6-7 at the CRWC.
