HAMILTON, Ont. – The Durham College men's volleyball team had a chance to shake off some rust this weekend as they took part in the Mohawk Mountaineers East/West Challenge this weekend in Hamilton.
With a shorthanded squad, the west proved to be best as Durham was swept 3-0 in all three of their matches. At the invitational tournament, the west dominated the competition, winning eight of the nine matches played. Georgian beat Mohawk 3-2 for the east's lone victory.
Durham opened the tournament with a 3-0 loss to St. Clair (25-20, 25-21, 25-22). On Saturday, they failed to rebound losing to Redeemer (25-20, 25-11, 26-24) and Mohawk (27-25, 25-17, 25-16). Durham beat Redeemer in preseason action.
It has been a season of ups and downs for the defending OCAA silver medalists, as they sit in third place in the OCAA east region with a 5-3 record.
Durham will look to climb up the standings and improve their playoff position with ten games remaining in the regular season, including a match against the Algonquin Thunder that was suspended in the third set.
