Ottawa wins annual Adidas Cup, Durham sixth

OSHAWA, Ont. - Hosting a handful of the best men's volleyball teams in the province, the Durham Lords men's volleyball team finished sixth at the annual Adidas Cup Thanksgiving Classic this weekend.

The lone university representative Ottawa Gee-Gees claimed the Adidas Cup championship, defeating the George Brown Huskies 3-0 in the final match of the tournament. The podium was rounded out by St. Clair after they topped Fleming 3-1 in the bronze medal match. Ottawa's Dan Proteau was named tournament MVP.

In round-robin play, the Lords opened the tournament with a 3-0 loss to the Ottawa Gee-Gees, before bouncing back with a 3-1 victory over the Cambrian Golden Shield to end day one of action at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Centre.

After opening day two with a tightly contested 3-2 loss to the Fleming Knights, the Lords matched up with the Algonquin Thunder in the consolation match for fifth place. Facing off with their fellow OCAA east competitors, Durham fell 3-0.

Following the extensive preseason, the Lords now begin their 2018-19 OCAA campaign in two weeks on Saturday, Oct. 20 when they travel to face the Centennial Colts in Scarborough. First serve is scheduled for 3 p.m.
