OSHAWA, Ont. – The Durham College men's volleyball team is taking part in the Movember challenge – an awareness initiative aimed at men's health and raising funds for prostate cancer research.
The campaign encourages participants to grow a moustache in the month of November as a way to raise awareness and promote that they are collecting funds towards the Movember Foundation.
"It's something that has a lot of positives to it and is something you can have a little fun with while raising funds and awareness for a cause that is very important," said men's volleyball captain
Tyler Krabi. "Men's health and prostate cancer are topics that aren't always discussed, but are something many men need to be aware of. Each November this campaign is something we're all well aware of, but it needs to extend past this month and the Movember Foundation has done a great job through all of their projects."
Durham's volleyball student-athletes will be raising funds at their two home games late in the month on November 22 against the Fleming Knights and November 29 against the George Brown Huskies.
The doubleheaders, which feature the women's match as well, get underway at 6 p.m. on both nights.
Any donations will be welcome on each night, with a portion of concession sales also going to the cause.
In the meantime, donations are being accepted on their team page at
www.durhamlords.com/movember. Photos of each player's moustache growth will also be featured each week on Wednesday on the Lords' social media.
