WESTMOUNT, Que. - The Durham College women's basketball team look to shake off any rust from the OCAA winter break with four exhibition contests at the Dawson Winter Classic in Westmount, Quebec this weekend.
The Lords return to their OCAA regular season schedule on Tuesday, Jan. 15 when they host the George Brown Huskies at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Centre. Tip off is scheduled for 6 p.m. with the men following at 8 p.m. The first home game of 2019 will also honour Durham College's two provincial championship teams from the fall semester as women's softball and men's rugby will have their banners unveiled during the course of the evening.
Thursday, Jan. 3
Durham vs. Champlain (Lennoxville) Cougars
Opening the three day tournament versus the Champlain (Lennoxville) Cougars, the Lords fell 68-56. A familiar foe as the two teams had previously played in an exhibition match during the Cougars Fall Classic in early October, which saw Lennoxville claim a similar 69-52 victory, both teams received solid team play from their squads. For the Lords,
Emily Glendinning (Plattsville, Ont.) continued to lead the way offensively this season with a team-high 14 points. Meanwhile,
Emily Chamberlain (Kingston, Ont.) grabbed a team-high nine rebounds for Durham.
Friday, Jan. 4
Durham vs. Dawson Blues
Facing off with the No. 1 nationally ranked Dawson Blues, the Durham Lords women's basketball team fell 87-41 in their second contest of the weekend. Following a tough opening half the Lords rebounded to produce better results in the second. Glendinning once again led Durham in scoring with 17 points. Fifth-year veteran
Kaitlyn Cruickshank (Oshawa, Ont.) delivered a solid defensive performance for the Lords.
Durham vs. Vanier Cheetahs
In another tough outing, the Lords women's basketball team dropped a 85-43 decision to the Vanier Cheetahs to end their second day at the exhibition tournament in Quebec. Glendinning and veteran guard
Dekota Kirby (Markham, Ont.) both reached double digits in the contest scoring 12 and 10 respectively. On the glass, rookie sensation
Marie Stasiuk (Cobourg, Ont.) pulled down an impressive 11 rebounds. The Lords will end the tournament tomorrow afternoon versus the Montmorency Nomades from Laval, Quebec.
Saturday, Jan. 5
Durham vs. Montmorency Nomades
In their final game of the three-day exhibition tournament the Durham Lords women's basketball team fell 101-56 to the Montmorency Nomades. Chamberlain proved to be the Lords most effective offensive weapon scoring a team-high 19 points, while Kirby added a second consecutive game with 10 points.Â
