HALIFAX, N.S. - Concluding their preseason Maritime trip against the MSVU Mystics, the Durham Lords women's basketball team fell 83-63 in Halifax on Sunday afternoon.
"This trip was a great experience for our team," said Lords head coach Heather Lafontaine. "We were able to get in three really competitive games, but most importantly bond as a team. Our roster this season is fairly new to each other so having time like this will be invaluable when we hit our regular season schedule."
All 10 players saw time on the court in the exhibition contest. Following a strong first half from DC, playing their third game in just 43 hours became evident in the second half as th squad were running on fumes. Despite the exhaustion, the Lords showed strong defence and good ball movement on offence with
Sierra Oliver (Ajax, Ont.) leading the way in scoring with 14 points. Also adding double-digit points were
Katiesha Brissett (Pickering, Ont.) and Mare Stasiuk (Cobourg, Ont.) with 12 and 10, respectively.
Durham continues their preseason next Friday, Sept. 27 in Hamilton against the Mohawk Mountaineers. Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m.
