OSHAWA, Ont. - For the first time in Campus Cup history there was a tie between the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks and the Durham Lords men's soccer teams.
As the first half came to an end, a lightning storm arrived at Vaso's Field, which meant that game was called due to weather.
Heading into halftime the score was 0-0, but both sides had a couple chances to find a go-ahead goal.
Durham goalkeeper Kevon Grant (Oshawa, Ont.) came up big on multiple occasions to keep Durham in the game.
The Ridgebacks defence stood firm to Durham's attack and looked comfortable in doing so.
With the tie, Durham leads the all-time record with six wins to Ontario Tech's four, while the Lords last won the cup in 2015.
Prior to the men's game, the Durham Lords women's soccer team dropped a 3-1 decision to the Ridgebacks in the rivalry contest. Natassha Hassenstein (Oshawa, Ont.) scored the lone goal for the Lords in the final minute of play.
Durham kicks off their 2019 season with a home game at Vaso's Field on Saturday against the Seneca Sting. The women kick off at 1 p.m., followed by the men at 3:15 p.m.
