NORTH BAY, ON - Continuing their preseason, the Durham College women's basketball team traveled to North Bay for a pair of games versus the Nipissing Lakers this past weekend, falling 54-48 and 67-46.
Opening the road trip on Friday evening, the Lords put up a fight against the OUA opponents, keeping things close throughout the four quarters. Then in a short turnaround for Game 2, which took place Saturday morning, DC ran out of steam.
Scoring leaders for the Lords were returning veterans
Marie Stasiuk (Cobourg, ON) and
Jillian Thompson (Oshawa, ON), alongside first-year guard
Brianna Morrison (Oshawa, ON). Second-year guard
Rusheda Gibbs (Winnipeg, MB) also impressed with great ball movement in both games, while first-year forward
Onika Leveridge (Scarborough, ON) shined on the defensive end for Durham.
"Playing back-to-back games after the long trip up to North Bay really allowed us to see the resolve of our team," mentioned head coach Heather Lafontaine. "We played really well on the Friday night, but just ran out of gas come Saturday morning. After long trips to Montreal and North Bay we are excited to host some preseason games in the next few weeks."
Durham will next host the Conestoga Condors, Niagara Knights and Centennial Colts at the CRWC from Nov. 6-7, with each team playing two games over the two days. DC will compete against the Condors on Saturday, followed by a match with the Knights on Sunday. Tip-off for both exhibition games is set for 1 p.m.
Overall Record: 1-3 (W-L)
Conference Record: 0-0
First OCAA match: Friday, Jan. 7 @ St. Lawrence Surge (Kingston, ON - 6 PM)
