OSHAWA, ON - The Durham College men's and women's volleyball teams hosted the Redeemer Royals at the CRWC on Thursday night, dropping both matches to the visitors 3-1. Set scores for the men were 15-25, 16-25, 25-22, 22-25, while the women's match finished 18-25, 25-21, 16-25, 14-25.
In the men's contest, the Lords were led offensively by third-year outside hitter
Quinton Hudgins (Port Perry, ON) and first-year athlete
Tyler Jegen (Calgary, AB). Both Hudgins and Jegen finished the four set match with eight kills each, with the pair also combining for three blocks. Guiding the offense for DC was first-year setter
Kyle Travis (Courtice, ON) who registered 18 assists, while
William Egan (Cobden, ON) finished with a team-high seven digs, defensively.
For the women, first-year setters
Jill Batsford (Kingston, ON) and
Brooke Young (Chestermere, AB) split time leading the offense, combining for 12 assists. On the receiving end of those assists was most often fourth-year outside hitter
Katie Stewart (Gananoque, ON) who recorded seven kills, along with a service ace. Stewart was also a defensive stalwart for the Lords registering a game-high 13 digs.
Next on the preseason calender for the men's team is the annual Adidas Cup hosted by Durham College at the CRWC from Nov. 19-20. Meanwhile, the women's team will have a little more time to prepare for their next exhibition match which will be part of a doubleheader versus the Loyalist Lancers on Wednesday, Nov. 24.
