SARNIA, ON - Traveling to Sarnia to compete in the inaugural Lambton Invitational, the Durham College women's basketball team fell in all three matchups during the weekend tournament. The Lords dropped a tightly contested opening contest with the host Lamtbon Lions 78-71. before struggling to find their form again in a 94-63 loss to the St. Clair Saints and 58-45 loss versus the Conestoga Condors.
In the Lords first match of the weekend versus the Lions this past Friday, second-year forward
Marie Stasiuk (Cobourg, ON) was outstanding finishing with 34 points, including 24 in the second half of the exciting opening bout. Fellow forward
Onika Leveridge (Scarborough, ON) also played strong adding 16 points, while returning second-year point guard Sierra Oliver (Ajax, ON) rounded out the double-digit point efforts with 10.
Facing a very tough opponent in the St. Clair Saints on Day 2, it was Stasiuk once again leading the offensive charge for the Lords with 19 points in the loss. Continuing to add to a pair of impressive preseason campaigns, both second-year guard
Jillian Thompson (Oshawa, ON) and first-year guard
Brianna Morrison (Oshawa, ON) recorded 15 points each.
Rounding out the weekend, DC and Conestoga engaged in a defensive battle. Durham was able to hold four of the five Condors scorers to six points or less, while on the offensive end themselves saw Stasiuk and Morrison score 15 and 11, respectively.
A quick turnaround, the Lords preseason schedules continues with a women's and men's doubleheader at the CRWC this Tuesday, Nov. 16. Welcoming the Centennial Colts to Oshawa, tip off for the women is scheduled for 6 p.m. with the exhibition tilt available to watch via
