OSHAWA, ON - Hosting the annual Adidas Cup volleyball tournament at the CRWC, the Durham College men's volleyball team finished the event on Saturday with a third place result.
The Lords began the second day of the tournament with a tough 3-0 loss to the Seneca Sting, placing them in the consolation final. Set scores for the first match of the day were 19-25, 23-25, 19-25. Lords captain
Quinton Hudgins (Port Perry, ON) had himself a game, registering 10 kills, three service aces, and six blocks for a 19 point performance. Also providing great defense was
Josh Clarke (Oshawa, ON), who tallied five blocks, and
Jacques Tournadre (Milton, ON), who recorded a team-high six digs as libero. DC setter
Kyle Travis (Courtice, ON) notched 14 assists, along with two blocks and four digs of his own in the opening match.
Moving on to play Loyalist for the second time in as many days, Durham claimed third place with a 3-0 sweep of the Lancers. Set scores were 25-14, 25-23, 25-14. Hudgins again led the way with 10 kills, three aces, and five blocks for the Lords. Five Lords, in addition to Hudgins, ended up scoring points in the quick three set win including Clarke, Travis,
Gavin Muller (Whitby, ON),
Aidan Carne (Stoney Creek, ON), and
Michael Penney (Whitby, ON). Defensively, Tournadre was also impressive again with a team-high seven digs in two sets played, while Travis added another 11 assists from his setter position.
The Lords and Lancers will continue to face off with another exhibition match scheduled between the two OCAA East teams this coming Wednesday, Nov. 24. The final preseason contest for the Lords will be part of a doubleheader with the women's teams, with first serve at 6 p.m., followed by the men at 8 p.m. The exhibition match will be available online via
