OSHAWA, ON - Hosting the annual Adidas Cup volleyball tournament at the CRWC, the Durham College men's volleyball team went 1-1 on the opening day of competition, defeating the Loyalist Lancers 3-0 before falling 3-0 to the Ottawa Gee-Gees.
In the opening contest of the day, Durham made quick work of the visiting Lancers, winning with set scores of 25-8, 25-17, 25-21. Highlighting the match was a first set service run for
Tyler Jegen (Calgary, AB) that spanned 17 points. Jegen finished the match with six service aces, adding four kills and two blocks for 12 points. Also having success in the Lords first match of the tournament,
Quinton Hudgins (Port Perry, ON) registered a team-high eight kills, along with three blocks. First-year setter
Kyle Travis (Courtice, ON) notched 22 assists in guiding the teams offense through the quick three sets, while both Jegen and Hudgins led the team defensively with eight digs apiece.
In DC's second match of Day 1, the Lords fell short versus Ottawa with set scores of 17-25, 13-25, 18-25. Hudgins led the teams offense with five kills and two blocks, while Jegen once again provided strong defense with a team-high 15 digs.
Aidan Carne (Stoney Creek, ON) was also strong defensively with 10 digs, while
William Egan (Cobden, ON) added additional scoring with four kills and one service ace.
The Adidas Cup continues tomorrow at the CRWC for the Lords with a final round robin match versus the Seneca Sting at 10 a.m. That match will then be followed by placement games in the afternoon to conclude the annual tournament.
