OSHAWA, ON - Hosting three OCAA competitors at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Centre (CRWC) this weekend, the Durham College women's basketball team earned two preseason wins in defeating the Conestoga Condors 61-58 on Saturday afternoon and Niagara Knights 94-62 on Sunday morning.
With four exhibition games already under their belt, the Lords appear to be rounding into form ahead of the OCAA season which is scheduled to begin this season in the new year. In their Saturday win Durham shot 50 percent from the floor, led by returning second-year forward and 2018-19 OCAA rookie of the year
Marie Stasiuk (Cobourg, ON). The strong interior player was 8-for-11 in the win finishing with 16 points, eight rebounds, and two assists in 36 minutes of action. Also reaching double-digits in the win, first-year guard
Brianna Morrison (Oshawa, ON) added 14 points, while second-year guard
Jillian Thompson (Oshawa, ON) notched 12. Adding an additional scoring punch, first-year forward
Onika Leveridge (Scarborough, ON) was perfect in the Saturday afternoon game, going 5-for-5 from the floor for 10 points off the bench.
With the offense rolling, the Lords carried their momentum into the Sunday morning game, scoring over 20 points in all four quarters of the second exhibition game in as many days. The trio of Stasiuk, Morrison, and Thompson once again led the teams offense with each scoring 26, 29, and 24, respectively. The combo of Stasiuk and Morrison also combined for 16 rebounds with eight boards apiece, while jumping into the starting lineup on Sunday, Leveridge delivered seven assists on the offensive end of the court and two steals and a block at the defensive end.
Durham will now hit the road for four straight preseason games away from the CRWC, beginning on Wednesday, Nov. 10 versus Sheridan, Tip-off against the Bruins is scheduled for 6 p.m. with the exhibition contest set to be streamed on
OCAA LIVE.
