OSHAWA, ON - Hosting the Trent Excalibur at Vaso's Field on Monday night, the Durham Lords men's soccer team returned to the pitch with a 2-0 preseason victory.
Returning veteran striker
Joshua Lee (Ajax, ON) made the first mark on the game, sending a strong shot just wide of net in the fifth minute. This was then countered by Trent who saw two good chances of their own in the opening 20 minutes, but missed from a free kick and short breakaway opportunity. The Excalibur continued their unlucky ways when they finally found the back of the Lords net in the 36th minute, but a disciplined back line for DC saw the goal disallowed due to an offside.
During the second half of action, it was Lee who broke the deadlock for the Lords when he delivered from the penalty spot in the 41st minute. Not long after, DC added another goal when newcomer
Skylar Grey (Ajax, ON) sped past two Trent defenders before beating the Excalibur keeper in the 56th minute.
Trent would pressure the Lords down the stretch, including potting another disallowed offside goal in the 70th minute, however the Lords defence stood tall to hold onto the clean sheet.
Durham will next challenge campus partners Ontario Tech in the annual Campus Cup exhibition this Wednesday, Sept. 15 at Vaso's Field. Kick off for the men is at 7 p.m., following the women who start at 6 p.m.
