BELLEVILLE, ON – The Durham Lords women's basketball team made the trip to Loyalist College to begin exhibition play this weekend.
 
Opening their pre-season schedule, the Lords played against the Lambton Lions on Friday evening. Lambton had a heavy lead going into halftime, but the Lords battled back in the second half to chip away at the deficit a little bit.
 
After a first half that saw Durham have little action on the scoreboard, Brianna Morrison registered 10 points in the third quarter despite only playing four minutes.
 
At the end of the day, the mountain was too much to climb and the Lords would lose 72-33.
 
Morrison led the way with 19 points and seven rebounds. Daija Thompson grabbed 10 boards, five on offence and five on defence. Kendra Oliver and Chante Gittens also recorded seven rebounds each.
 
Durham's offence had more rhythm on Saturday, generating 23 points in the first half. After trailing 43-23 through two quarters, the Knights really hit the gas with a 23-8 third quarter, before adding another 23 points in the fourth quarter to put the game out of reach.
 
With an 89-48 loss, the Lords fall to 0-2 in the preseason. Morrison was the team leader in points again with 26 points, in addition to five rebounds, two steals and one assist. Onika Leveridge stood out with nine points and 11 rebounds.
 
The Lords continue their preseason campaign on Monday, October 10 as they make the trip to Hamilton for a thanksgiving matchup against the Mohawk Mountaineers.
