OSHAWA, ON – In their second meeting of the season, the Lords kickoff a trip to the nation's capital with a 3-1 win over the Algonquin Wolves.
After sweeping the Wolves in their home opener, the Lords came up short in a first set that required extra serves, ending 26-24 in the hosts favour. The second set also went long with the Lords tying it up at one-a-piece with a 28-26 win. Durham carried that momentum into the third set with a heavy 25-9 win before holding off the Wolves 25-21 in the final set to secure the win in four, and sweep the season series.
Athlete of the week Katie Stewart (Gananoque, ON) finished with 15 kills on 26 total attempts, a pair of assists, three digs and three blocked shots. Jessica Joensen (Brooklin, ON) had an impressive showing with nine kills and six digs.
Jill Batsford (Kingston, ON) assisted on 29 of 40, with Brooke Young (Chestermere, AB) accounting for eight, Stewart assisting two and Devyn Fraser (Uxbridge, ON) doing it once.
The Lords finished the match with 12 blocks, five coming from Mia Hildebrandt (Winnipeg, MB), four from Amanda Larsen (Toronto, ON) and three from Stewart.
Durham make the crosstown trip to La Cité for their first meeting of the season tomorrow afternoon.
