OSHAWA, ON – The Durham Lords women's volleyball team improve to 7-0 in OCAA regular season action with a win in four sets over the La Cité Coyotes.
Durham took the first set in what was a relatively close afternoon by a 25-22 score and would jump ahead two sets to nothing with a 25-19 second set win. Needing to win the third to keep their match alive, La Cité squeaked out a 25-23 win to force a fouth set, which the Lords took 25-15.
Jessica Joensen (Brooklin, ON) accounted for a team-high 40 total attack attempts on the afternoon, with 12 kills. She also recorded six digs and two service aces, leading her squad in points with 14.0 for the match. Mia Hildebrandt (Winnipeg, MB) and Amanda Larsen (Toronto, ON) each posted a significant number of kills and blocks. Hildebrandt finished the afternoon with seven kills and four blocked shots, while Larsen registered six kills and three blocked shots.
Brooke Young (Chestermere, AB) assisted 24 times, with Jill Batsford (Kingston, ON) earning nine assists and Aislinn Pedersen (Hamilton, ON) and Cassidy Unrau (Port Coquitlam, BC) each picking up one. Joensen and Jessie Anatol (Ajax, ON) were the team leaders in digs with six each, Katie Stewart (Gananoque, ON) not far behind with five.
The Lords finish off their three-match road trip with a trip to Scarborough next Saturday to play the Centennial Colts. They return home the following day for their next home match at 1:00 PM on November 20 against the Coyotes.
