Lords improve to 8-0 with win at Centennial

SCARBOROUGH, ON – With a three set win to kickoff the weekend, the Durham Lords women's volleyball team win their eighth in as many matches on Saturday with a 3-0 victory over the Centennial Colts.

Centennial closed the gap more and more each set after losing 25-12 in the opener, but couldn't find a way to put 25 points on the Lords. Durham took the second set 25-19 before an incredibly close third set. Down 24-23, the Colts put the ball out of bounds and the Lords took a 25-23 victory to win the set and the match.

Athlete of the week Jessica Joensen (Brooklin, ON) attempted 38 total attacks through three sets, recording a team-leading 18 kills. Also notably on the offensive side of the ball, Cassidy Unrau (Port Coquitlam, BC) single-handedly gave her team three points via service aces, while Brooke Young (Chestermere, AB) and Jessie Anatol (Ajax, ON) each served two aces.

Young and Jill Batsford (Kingston, ON) once again led the team in assists, with 14 and 13, respectively. At the net, the Lords recorded four blocks on the afternoon with two from Mia Hildebrandt (Winnipeg, MB) and one each from Amanda Larsen (Toronto, ON) and Tia Chang (Markham, ON). Defensively, Aislinn Pedersen (Hamilton, ON) and Larsen each had six digs, while Hildebrandt had five and Unrau posted a total of four.

Durham return home on Sunday as they look to stay undefeated, playing their second and final matchup of the season against the La Cité Coyotes. They last played in Ottawa last Saturday, with the Lords winning in four sets.
