OSHAWA, ON – Improving to 9-0 in OCAA regular season action, the Durham Lords women's volleyball team defeated the La Cité Coyotes at home on Sunday afternoon.
Meeting for the second time in nine days, the Lords looked to improve on their four-set win over the Coyotes on November 12 in Ottawa. Things looked promising with identical 25-21 set wins in the first two frames. With a chance to lock down the sweep, the Lords would do just that with a 25-14 win in the third set.
Jessica Joensen (Brooklin, ON), Durham College's reigning athlete of the week, led the way again as an offensive force with 12 kills on 26 total attacks. She also served up an ace and posted four digs, two assists and a blocked shot., ending the game with a team-leading 14.0 points.
Amanda Larsen (Toronto, ON) and Mia Hildebrandt (Winnipeg, MB) were forces at the net, combining for seven total blocked shots. Larsen finished the afternoon with eight kills, a trio of blocks and three digs. Hildebrandt recorded five kills, four blocked shots and a dig.
Also in double-digit point territory, Aislinn Pedersen (Hamilton, ON) finished with 10.0 points, registering seven kills and three service aces, along with a team-leading seven digs, tied with Devyn Fraser (Uxbridge, ON) who also had seven.
Jill Batsford (Kingston, ON) led the squad with 17 assists, with Brooke Young (Chestermere, AB) accounting for another 13.
The Lords play once more at home before taking a break for the holidays, hosting the Georgian Grizzlies on Tuesday at 6:00 PM.
