OSHAWA, ON – On Tuesday evening, the Durham Lords battled hard against the Georgian Grizzlies, but fell in three sets to OCAA men's volleyball's only remaining undefeated team.
Durham put the Grizzlies to the test, forcing long sets, but ultimately dropped the first two 25-17 and 25-20. The third set looked the most promising of the bunch, with the Lords leading late in the set by a. 21-17 score, but Georgian forced their way back to a 25-23 win.
Despite the match ending in three sets, the 23 assists from Kyle Travis (Courtice, ON) tied his second highest total of the season. The Lords had seven service aces on the evening, with four coming from Tyler Jegen (Calgary, AB) while William Egan (Cobden, ON), Josh Padmore (Hamilton, ON) and Travis each earned one.
At the net, Jegen and Michael Penney (Whitby, ON) scored on two blocked shots each, while Nandor Gallo (Oshawa, ON), Padmore and Travis each sent one back over.
Athlete of the week Egan registered a team-high nine kills, with Penney and Jegen smashing five each.
The Lords have one more match on the schedule before heading into the holiday break as they travel to Loyalist College on November 30 for an 8:00 PM matchup. Returning in the new calendar year, regular season action starts up on January 19, 2023 on the road against Fleming and the Lords return home to host Loyalist on Thursday, January 26, 2023 at 8:00 PM.
