BELLEVILLE, ON – The Durham Lords men's volleyball team played a long match in Belleville on Wednesday night, ultimately defeating the Loyalist Lancers in five sets.
Loyalist had a very strong start to the match, taking the first set 25-13 over the visiting Lords. However, Durham bounced back in the second set. Trailing ever so closely behind in the second set and eventually finding themselves down 24-23, the Lords kept the set alive with two consecutive points to take the 25-24 lead but the set would have to be won by two. After trading off one point each, a ball handling error on the Lancers side of the net gave the Lords a 27-25 victory and tied up the match.
In the third set, the Lancers went ahead in the match again following a 25-20 win. The fourth set score was similar, this time Durham on top by a 25-21 result to force a fifth and final set.
The race to 15 was back and forth with neither side leading by more than two for the first half of it. With the score 9-8 in Durham's favour, the Lords went on a 6-2 run to end it and hit the buses with a win in their back pocket.
Tyler Jegen (Calgary, AB) smashed 11 of his squads 45 total kills, leading the team.
