OSHAWA, ON – The Durham Lords women's basketball team suffer only their second loss of the regular season, falling 60-53 to an undefeated Algonquin Wolves side.
In a battle of the only two OCAA East teams to be unbeaten going into Friday night, the first quarter was low-scoring but relatively close as the Wolves took a 15-11 lead through 10 minutes. The Lords would keep themselves in it going into halftime, only trailing 30-25. The third quarter would prove to be the lowest scoring of the bunch, with the Lords outscoring Algonquin by one to send the game into the fourth quarter with a 40-36 score line.
Both offences found their rhythm in the fourth quarter, with the Lords scoring a game-high 17 points in the frame. But Algonquin would also score their game-high, 20, to extend their lead and ultimately win it 60-53.
Both teams finished the night with 21 turnovers, but the Wolves took the edge scoring 16 points off of turnovers, with the Lords only turning it around for five points.
A trio of Lords finished the night with double-digit points – Daija Thompson (Whitby, ON) with 14, Onika Leveridge (Scarborough, ON) with 12 and Brianna Morrison (Oshawa, ON) with 11. Leveridge also had a double-double, adding 11 rebounds to her box score.
Emily Glendinning (Plattsville, ON) finished the evening with nine points and six rebounds.
Durham rounds off the fall semester with a trip to Kingston to face the St. Lawrence Surge on Friday, December 2nd. The Lords return from the holidays with a three-game road trip to reignite the regular season in January, returning home next on Tuesday, January 24 against the Georgian Grizzlies at 6:00 PM.
