Box Score OSHAWA, ON – The Durham Lords post their second shutout of the season to stay unbeaten through four matches, defeating the Sault Cougars 6-0.
Garvit Gautam (Oshawa, ON) opened the scoring in the 18
th minute from the penalty spot finding the top right corner of the net to score his first OCAA goal.
In the 26
th minute, Gautam fired the ball on net off a free kick from nearly 25 yards away to find the back of the net and double the lead. In the 30
th minute, a shot from
Scott McAllister (Whitby, ON) rang off the post and Gautam jumped on it to score a hat trick in the first half hour of the match.
Before halftime, Gautam sent a shot on net saved by the goalkeeper but
Jeremie-Sorel Nguewo (London, ON) jumped for a mid-air rebound to head the ball into the net for his first career goal. Seven minutes later Nguewo split the defence and took the ball into the box by himself to take a shot that would hit off the post and go into the net for a 5-0 lead.
William Lyden (Oshawa, ON) had his turn on the scoresheet before halftime, scoring in the 44
th minute to record his second goal in four appearances this season.
The Lords finished 19 shots, 12 of which were on target. Not having faced any shots and holding a six-goal lead,
Garrett Werner (Ajax, ON) was given time off for the second half as
Jonathan Ocquaye (Mississauga, ON) made his OCAA regular season debut for the final 45 minutes.
Durham are back on the pitch on Friday, September 23 in Kingston against the St. Lawrence Surge. The Lords return home on Friday, September 30 to host the Fleming Knights at Vaso's Field at 8:15 PM.
