OSHAWA, ON – For the first time since 2017, the Durham Lords dropped three points against the Fleming Knights with a 1-0 loss on Friday evening.
Durham managed five shots in the opening 45 minutes but neither side were able to solve the goalkeepers as the game went into halftime scoreless. Garrett Werner (Ajax, ON) was tested three times in the first half as three of six shots were on target but kept the score even with some highlight reel stops.
The first 25 minutes of the second half was just as scoreless as the first, but the Fleming Knights broke the ice in the 70th minute with a near unstoppable shot to take the lead. Fleming nearly doubled their lead in the 78th minute but Werner went diving across the net to punch it away.
There would be a number of chances for the Lords in the final 20 and they pushed hard, but ultimately the Knights' back line was too strong.
Werner finished the match with five saves. Isaiah Wisdom (Whitby, ON) generated several opportunities with three shots. In addition, Deandre Watkis (Ajax, ON), Anthony Barrese (Oshawa, ON) and Tyrell Thompson (Whitby, ON) recorded shots on target.
The Lords play their final home game of the regular season on Wednesday, October 5 at 8:15 PM as the St. Lawrence Surge roll into town. Durham will then end the season on a three-match road trip.
