TORONTO, ON – With a Saturday evening win at George Brown, the Durham Lords women's basketball team handed the host Huskies another loss with a 75-54 win for the visitors.
It was a slow start for the Lords, as the Huskies led 22-18 through one quarter and 34-31 by halftime. The second half was a totally different story, beginning with a game-high 26-point third quarter from the Lords. Brianna Morrison (Oshawa, ON) shot 6-for-8 with a three pointer in the quarter for 13 points after having gone into the quarter with only four points on the night. The Lords held George Brown to only 16 points, allowing Durham to not only chip away at the deficit but also take a seven point lead.
In the fourth and final quarter, the Lords absolutely came to play defensively. Shooting 1-for-18 (5.6%) from the field in the quarter, a suffocating Lords defence held the hosts to only four points in the final 10 minutes. Not leaving their offensive responsibilities behind, Durham recorded another 18 points to go up by 21 and ultimately win the game 75-54.
Morrison finished the night as the team leader in points with 25, also posting six rebounds, four steals, three assists and a blocked shot. Hannah Oke (Brooklin, ON) gave her team plenty of opportunities to take possession back with nine defensive rebounds, for a total of 14 boards. Aiesha Lewis (Scarborough, ON) had eight rebounds, Kendra Oliver (Ajax, ON) grabbed seven and Onika Leveridge (Scarborough, ON) and Morrison's six each gave Durham a total of 51 rebounds on the night, 20 more than their opponents.
Oliver and Emily Glendinning (Plattsville, ON) each registered double-digit points with 14 and 12, respectively.
The Lords return to the Campus Recreation & Wellness Centre (CRWC) on Tuesday for Bell Let's Talk night.
