10 wins on the season for the Lords with victory against Grizzlies

OSHAWA, ON – The Durham College women's basketball team battle their way to a fifth consecutive win on Tuesday night after defeating the Georgian Grizzlies 75-53.

In their first home game since November, the Lords came out of the gates flying with an 18-7 lead after the first quarter and a 36-15 lead heading into halftime.

Georgian more than doubled their first half total in the third quarter with 17 points, but an upswing in offence at one end of the court also saw an upswing at the other, with 24 points from the Lords. Brianna Morrison (Oshawa, ON) had a breakout quarter with 12 points, shooting 4-for-7 from beyond the three-point arc.

Despite a short bench and tired legs, the Grizzlies refused to give-in, rather outscoring the hosts 21-15 in the final frame. Durham ultimately won 75-53 to take their fifth straight in OCAA action, as well as enter double-digit wins territory with 10 through 11 games this season.

Morrison led the team in points with 23, adding four assists, two rebounds and a steal.

Shay Littmann (Ajax, ON) had her most impressive outing of the season with 12 points, six assists, three rebounds, two steals and a blocked shot. Emily Glendinning (Plattsville, ON) was all over the court with 11 points, three rebounds, two assists and a steal.

The Lords dominated the paint with 48 rebounds. Aiesha Lewis (Scarborough, ON) led the way with eight, Daija Thompson (Whitby, ON) grabbed seven and Hannah Oke (Brooklin, ON) had six.

As a team, the Lords took advantage of 28 turnovers from the Grizzlies, scoring 33 points off of turnovers. The Lords also proved to be a force in the paint, doubling Georgian's point total in the area of the floor.

Durham returns to the court in February as the St. Lawrence Surge roll into town on Friday, February 3rd for a 6:00 PM tip-off.
