OSHAWA, ON – At their annual Bell Let's Talk night, the Durham Lords women's volleyball team defeated the visiting Loyalist Lancers in straight sets to improve to 13-0 on the season.
Durham took the opening set 25-16, led by Katie Stewart (Gananoque, ON) who hit for four kills in the first frame. The Lancers showed a lot of battle in the second set, leading through a slight delay halfway through the set, but the Lords ultimately came out on top 25-20 before taking the third set by a 25-15 score to complete the sweep.
Stewart and Jessica Joensen (Brooklin, ON) both had the offence running through them with each totalling 22 total attacks on the night. Stewart led the team in kills with 10, while Joensen was not far behind with seven. Amanda Larsen (Toronto, ON) also posted seven kills across three sets on 14 total attempts.
Jill Batsford (Kingston, ON) led the way in assists with 21, setting her squad up for success at the net.
From the service line, Joensen and Jessie Anatol (Ajax, ON) each served two aces, while Larsen, Tia Chang (Markham, ON) and Samantha Payne (West Kelowna, BC) each served one. On the defensive side of the court, Batsford earned a team-leading six digs. Alisia Lush (Lyalta, AB) recorded four while Devyn Fraser (Uxbridge, ON) and Aislinn Pedersen (Hamilton, ON) each had three.
Larsen accounted for four of the Lords' seven blocks on Thursday evening, Stewart sent two back over the net and Cassidy Unrau (Port Coquitlam, BC) blocked one shot. Stewart and Larsen would both finish the night with double-digit points, each finishing with 12.0.
The Lords are back on the court on Saturday for a 1:00 PM match against the 10-3 George Brown Huskies. The Huskies have not lost a set in the last two matches, while the Lords have not lost one in their last six.
