OSHAWA, ON - A late comeback attempt in a fiery affair fell just short against the nationally ranked George Brown Huskies as the Durham College men's soccer team fell 2-1 on Wednesday night.
The Huskies showed why they're ranked third in the nation with a 12th minute goal to put the visitors up by one. Although no goals for the remainder of the half, tempers showed near halftime with a pair of red cards issued in the 45th minute.
George Brown doubled their lead shortly after resuming play for the second half with a 48th minute goal, followed by four yellow cards shown to the Huskies in 14 minutes as emotions continued to reach new heights.
After the Lords missed on a penalty kick attempt earlier in the match, Deandre Watkis (Ajax, ON) put it home from the spot in the 64th minute to bring the Lords within one.
Playing the second half 10-on-10, the Lords fell behind with a straight red card issued in the 79th minute. It would become 9-on-9 when the Huskies had one more player sent off from the match but the extra space on the pitch wouldn't result in any more goals.
Durham gave themselves every opportunity to bring the match level, particularly late in the game. Over 90 minutes, the Lords outshot the Huskies 12-11 with four shots on target for the hosts.
Seeing their three-match winning streak coming to an end, the Lords look to bounce back on Saturday, October 7 as they travel to Scarborough for a meeting with the Centennial Colts. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:15 PM.
