Game Recap: Women's Basketball | | Durham College Sports Information

Tightly contested game goes Seneca's way

NORTH YORK, ON - After a lengthy break in the schedule, the Durham College women's basketball team made the trip to Seneca where they lost a hard fought game 62-57.

Constantly tight on the scoreboard, neither side held a lead larger than 10 and the lead changed 11 times on the evening.

Durham scored their first bucket nearly four minutes in, trailing 5-0 as Emma Bergen (La Crete, AB) made the first of many jump shots in the game - assisted from Emily Glendinning (Plattsville, ON) in her season debut.

Kayla Khodra (Toronto, ON) was on fire in the second quarter, shooting 3-for-3 and draining three of four free throw attempts for nine points in eight minutes of action. Her contributions helped keep the score nearly level, with the Sting leading 28-27 at halftime.

Bergen had a nine-point quarter of her own in the third, with her shooting stats mirroring Khodra's from the second quarter. This pulled the game completely level through three quarters.

Seneca was able to pull away in the fourth quarter thanks to a 14-7 run in the latter part of the final quarter. The Lords did come back within four but the hosts put the game away with another made free throw and a forced turnover.

Breaking it down individually, Bergen finished the night with 19 points, five assists, three rebounds and a steal.

In her first game since returning from the women's softball season, Glendinning played 38 minutes, recording 13 points, five rebounds, a trio of assists and a steal. Khodra made efficient use of her 16 minutes of floor time, posting 13 points and four rebounds.

Durham consistently made the Sting pay for their mistakes throughout the night, scoring 28 points off turnovers.

The Lords will return to action on Friday evening with a trip back to Toronto to take on the George Brown Huskies at 6:00 PM.
