TORONTO, ON - Women's basketball kept themselves in it all night, but ultimately fell short in a 63-53 loss to the George Brown Huskies on Friday.
The game was close off the hop, going back-and-forth with neither team really creating much separation. That all changed starting with roughly there and a half minutes left in the quarter when the Huskies went on a 9-3 run to take a 21-13 lead through 10 minutes of play.
Durham were able to chip away at their deficit slightly in the second quarter, outscoring the hosts 11-8.Â
After the Huskies shot 53.3% in the opening quarter, the Lords tightened up their defence in the second quarter and suffocated the Huskies, holding them to shooting only 17.6%.
George Brown went into halftime with a 29-24 lead.
In the third quarter, the Huskies were successful in creating separation on the scoreboard. They turned into a strong shooting team once again, going 9-for-15 in a 21-point quarter.
The Lords took advantage of George Brown's shooting inconsistencies in the fourth quarter, but only came within 10 points by the final whistle.
Emma Bergen (La Crete, AB) posted a double-double with 29 points and 14 rebounds. She shot 9-for-20 from the field and took advantage of her free throw opportunities, going 10-for-12.
Emily Glendinning (Plattsville, ON) also stood out with 11 points, nine defensive rebounds and a pair of steals.
Durham were stronger in the paint as a whole, out rebounding George Brown 44-35.
The Lords are back in action looking for a win on Tuesday, November 7 as they host the Georgian Grizzlies at 6:00 PM.
