Lords sweep Grizzlies in second meeting of the season

OSHAWA, ON - The Durham College women's volleyball team got their two meetings against the Georgian Grizzlies out of the way very early in the season, defeating the visitors in three sets on Thursday evening.

The opening set was very back and forth with both sides trading off a one-point lead until was 6-6 and Durham began to create some separation as they scored 10 of the next 12 points in the set. Georgian could not dig themselves out of the hole they found themselves in halfway through the set, one that the Lords would go on to take 25-20.

In the second set, things were even more so lopsided as Durham found themselves up 18-6 before they knew it. Georgian continued to show their battle, limiting the Lords to a 7-5 run as the Lords took it 25-11. Only one more set was required in the best-of-five. The Grizzlies refused to concede, keeping themselves within a small handful of points throughout the entirety of the third set. Fortunately for the hosts, they consistently kept themselves on top even with little distance between the two scores, eventually taking it 25-21 to win the match.

Aislinn Pedersen (Hamilton, ON) was the leader in kills with seven on 14 total attempts, including one service ace and one dig on her stat line. Chanel Ethier (Ottawa, ON) and Amanda Larsen (Toronto, ON) both were not far behind, each recording six kills. Larsen also registered a trio of blocked shots at the net.

Brooke Young (Chestermere, AB) was consistently the playmaker all night, notching 25 assists across three sets.

Larsen, Samantha Payne (West Kelowna, BC) and Chelsea Oke (Brooklin, ON) all had multiple service aces in the match.

The Lords are back in action at home next Thursday against the Seneca Sting. The first serve is scheduled for 6:00 PM.
