OSHAWA, ON - The Durham College women's volleyball team improved to 5-0 on the season after defeating the visiting Seneca Sting in only three sets.
With both teams going into the match undefeated and tied at the top of the OCAA east, this was the first of two opportunities this season that both teams would have to create some separation in the standings at the expense of the other.
Durham led for much of the opening set, by roughly four or less points at any given time. Seneca kept it close but the Lords ultimately took the first set 25-21.
After leading 12-10 nearly halfway through the second set, the Lords went on a 7-2 run to take a larger lead and eventually win the second set 25-17.
The third set was the quickest of the bunch after the Lords scored the first seven points in the frame. That would define the rest of the evening as the Lords went on to win the third set 25-12 and complete the sweep.
Much of the offence on the night flowed through Chelsea Oke (Brooklin, ON). The freshman dual-sport athlete finished the day with eight kills on 20 total attempts and four digs for 8.0 points.
Aislinn Pedersen (Hamilton, ON) and Chanel Ethier (Ottawa, ON) were tied for the team lead with 9.0 points each, with both players recording six kills and three service aces on their stat line.
Reigning athlete of the week Brooke Young (Chestermere, AB) assisted 23 more times through three sets, brining her season total to 136 where she sits fifth in the OCAA. Young also served three aces.
Amanda Larsen (Toronto, ON) blocked three shots to go with two kills and a pair of service aces.
The Lords travel to Belleville on Saturday to take on the Loyalist Lancers at 1:00 PM.
