Durham knock off Centennial in straight sets

OSHAWA, ON - In their final home match of the fall semester, the Durham College women's volleyball team swept the visiting Centennial Colts to extend their winning streak to three.

The first set was the quickest, after the Colts cut the score to 20-13, the Lords scored five unanswered points to take the first set 25-13.

In the second set, Durham went ahead early by a 6-2 score. They forced the visitors to take a timeout and slow things down while the Lords had doubled their score 12-6.

The timeout was a good call for Centennial as they went on a 5-1 run out of the break. Despite bringing the score line within two, the Lords ran away with it again, taking the second set 25-18.

Each set would get closer and closer and the third was no different, with the Lords ultimately winning it 25-19 to complete the three-set sweep.

Aislinn Pedersen (Hamilton, ON), one of the OCAA's stars of the week, continued her hot streak into Thursday's match with 12 kills, nine digs and two service aces. Finishing the day with a .385 kill percentage on 26 total attempts, Pedersen led the team with 14.0 points.

Samantha Payne (West Kelowna, BC) and Amanda Larsen (Toronto, ON) each came in with five kills. Payne also added three service aces, three digs and a blocked shot while Larsen added three digs and a pair of blocks at the net.

At the service line, Chelsea Oke (Brooklin, ON) and Chanel Ethier (Ottawa, ON) were regularly reliable with three aces each. Brooke Young (Chestermere, AB) finished the match with 24 of the team's 32 total assists.

The Lords travel to North York on Wednesday, November 29 for an 8:00 PM match against the Seneca Sting.
