OSHAWA, ON - The Durham College women's basketball team lost 63-54 to the visiting Loyalist Lancers on Tuesday evening.
Onika Leveridge (Scarborough, ON) opened the scoring in the game to put the Lords ahead with a layup 1:21 into the evening. After the Lords worked their way to an 11-6 lead, the Lancers couldn't miss as they went on an 8-2 run to take a one point lead by the quarter ending buzzer.
Loyalist used the second quarter to extend their lead, scoring the first six points in the frame to pick up where they left off. Kayla Khodra (Toronto, ON) had a strong quarter, scoring seven points and picking up three rebounds in seven minutes of action.
By halftime, the Lancers led the Lords 31-26.
Durham went on a 6-0 run out of the gate to open the third quarter, outscoring the Lancers 18-11 over 10 minutes. Through three quarters of play, the Lords held a 44-42 lead.
The Lancers had the highest scoring quarter of either team in the fourth, dropping 21 points on the hosts while holding the Lords to a game-low 10 points. The 11-point differential in the quarter put the Lancers back ahead to win the game.
Khodra had arguably her best game of the season, scoring a season-high 17 points and grabbing four rebounds.
Emma Bergen (La Crete, AB) posted a double-double with 13 rebounds and 10 points, along with five assists. She had 10 rebounds in the defensive end, more than anybody on the court.
Leveridge and Telia Campbell (Pickering, ON) both contributed eight points, while Campbell added six assists and four rebounds and Leveridge recorded four boards.
The Lords play one more game before the holiday break, travelling to Barrie on Friday, December 1 to face the Georgian Grizzlies. Durham will play their next home game in the new year, hosting the George Brown Huskies on Tuesday, January 16, 2024 for a 6:00 PM tip-off.
