NORTH YORK, ON - The Durham College men's volleyball team won a five set thriller on Wednesday evening, defeating the Seneca Sting 3-2.
Durham had looked to make it a quick night early on, winning the first two sets 25-20 and 25-19.
Fortunes changed in the third set as the Sting kept their night alive with a 25-21 win in the third set, followed by a 25-22 fourth set win to tie the match and send it to a tiebreaker fifth set.
In what was the tightest set of the day, the Lords battled through and came out on top 15-13 to get back in the win column.
Tyler Jegen (Calgary, AB) and William Egan (Cobden, ON) had massive showings, accounting for a combined 66% of the team's kills on the night.
Jegen finished the game with 20.0 points, registering 19 kills and a blocked shot along with five digs and an assist. Egan was one point behind him with 19.0, generating 16 kills, two blocked shots, a service ace and six digs.
Josh Padmore (Hamilton, ON) and Will Doucet (Toronto, ON) joined their aforementioned teammates in double-digit territory with 10.0 points each. Padmore posted seven kills, two blocked shots and a service ace, while Doucet had six kills, two blocks and two aces.
Ben Rocheleau (Stouffville, ON) led the team in assists with 36, while Kyle Travis (Courtice, ON) added 10 and Ravi Hunter (Brandon, MB) contributed six more.
The Lords return to the court one last time before the holiday break with a trip to Toronto on Friday to take on the George Brown Huskies at 8:00 PM.
