Durham lose to Georgian in four sets

OSHAWA, ON - The Durham College men's volleyball team were scheduled to face the Georgian Grizzlies for the second time in less than a week on Thursday night, falling in four sets to an undefeated Grizzlies side.

Durham had a strong start to the opening frame, leading by as much as eight with an 18-10 score before the Grizzlies found their rhythm. Georgian then went on a 16-6 run to take the set 26-24.

The second set had a tough start with the Grizzlies scoring the first 10 points. This time it was Durham making a comeback from behind, once seeing themselves down 12-2 they came within three as the scoreboard read 19-16. Although it became a highly competitive set in the end, the Grizzlies took it 25-22.

In the third set, it was pretty back-and-forth and it required extra serves for the second time in the evening. This time the Grizzlies could not keep it in bounds and the Lords came out on top, 26-24. The fourth set would be the end of the road, with the Lords coming up short 25-20.

William Egan (Cobden, ON) and Tyler Jegen (Calgary, AB) both finished the night with 31 total attack attempts each, with Egan hitting for 11 kills and Jegen recording 10. They both also generated points at the service line, with Egan serving five aces and Jegen serving four.

Will Doucet (Toronto, ON) registered nine kills on 17 attempts and had a team-leading six blocked shots at the net.

Digs were relatively spread out throughout the lineup, with most coming from the Egan brothers, while Kyle Travis (Courtice, ON) had 32 assists and Benjamin Rocheleau (Stouffville, ON) assisted eight times.

The Lords have a week away from game action before returning to the Campus Recreation & Wellness Centre on Thursday, November 9 against the Seneca Sting at 8:00 PM.
