OSHAWA, ON - Fans at the Campus Recreation & Wellness Centre (CRWC) couldn't ask for a closer match, but it didn't go the way of the Lords as the men's volleyball team lost in five.
Down 7-3 early in the first set, the Lords rallied from behind to go on a 15-4 run to take a big 18-11 lead. They wouldn't look back as the Lords took the opening set 25-18.
In the second set, it was back-and-forth all the way through from the first serve until the last hit. Seneca eventually took the set 25-23 after a long rally that saw neither side willing to give in with the set on the line. This allowed Seneca to tie up the match 1-1.
Both sides would only be separated by one or two points for the majority of the third set, this time it was the Lords squeaking by via a 25-22 victory.
Seneca had to win the fourth set to keep the match alive and they did that by a 25-21 score to tie the meeting 2-2.
Durham found themselves leading 10-9 in the latter half of the first set but Seneca found a final burst of momentum to go on a 6-0 run to win the fifth set 15-10 and the match 3-2.
The Lords saw three different players in double-digit kill territory on Thursday evening. William Egan (Cobden, ON) led the way with 16 kills, five service aces, a pair of blocked shots and a dig. Tyler Jegen (Calgary, AB) was not far behind with 12 kills, four aces and a block, while Josh Padmore (Hamilton, ON) posted 11 kills and a block.
Kyle Travis (Courtice, ON) was the playmaker once again, assisting 36 times and adding five kills plus three blocked shots of his own.
Durham return to the court on Saturday, November 11 at 3:00 PM against the Loyalist Lancers on the road.
