MISSISSAUGA, ON - On yet another road trip, the Lords win both games in a doubleheader against the Sheridan Bruins.
In the first game, the Lords scored twice in the second after a scoreless first inning. After scoring six in the third and two more in the fourth inning without conceding a run, the Lords ended the game in five innings with a 10-0 win.
Jessica Greene (Stratford, ON) scored three runs and recorded an RBI in the game. Hannah Oke (Brooklin, ON) was also impressive with two runs and two RBI's.Â
In two trips to the plate, Kaleigh MacIntyre (Bowmanville, ON) drove in four runs.
Morgan Salter (Battersea, ON) struck out six batters and only gave up one hit in 4.0 innings pitched. Sydney Redick (Alvinston, ON) came in for the final three batters to finish it off, striking out one.
The Bruins took an early lead in the second game, scoring one run in the opening frame while also holding the Lords scoreless for two innings.
However, that would not last long as Durham scored three runs in the top of the third before Sheridan tied it again in the bottom half of the inning.
After a scoreless fourth inning, the Lords exploded on the scoreboard with 10 runs in the fifth and eight more runs for good measure in the seventh inning to win the game 21-3.
Natalie Clemens (Marmora, ON) crossed home plate four times in four at-bats, while Chelsea Oke (Brooklin, ON), Ryleigh Easton (Bowmanville, ON), Chloe Showers (Uxbridge, ON), Grace Hearns (Napanee, ON) and Abi Suffel (Whitby, ON) all recored multi-run games with two each.
Chelsea Oke, combined with Arianne Pollon (Tisdale, SK), drove in six RBI's in the game.
On the mound, three pitchers shared time in the game. Emily Glendinning (Plattsville, ON) struck out two batters in 2.0 innings, Chelsea Oke struck out one in 3.0 innings and Hannah Oke struck out three of eight batters faced.
The Lords play their home opener next on Sunday, September 17 in a doubleheader against the Fanshawe Falcons at 1:00 and 3:00 PM. Durham will celebrate former assistant coach Rosie Theriault with a pre-game ceremony. Also in her honour, the first 50 fans will receive free hot dogs.
