HAMILTON, ON - The Durham College women's softball team extend their undefeated streak to 10 wins with a pair of victories against the Mohawk Mountaineers on Thursday evening.
Durham came to play right from the start. Gracie Hearns (Napanee, ON) and Natalie Clemens (Marmora, ON) both took advantage of separate wild pitches in the top of the first inning to take an early 2-0 lead.
An RBI double hit by Sydney Redick (Alvinston, ON), followed by an RBI triple from Jessica Greene (Stratford, ON) doubled their lead. In the same inning, Greene and Hannah Oke (Brooklin, ON) would later score to go up by six runs before Mohawk went up to bat.
Both sides went scoreless in the second inning before Ryleigh Easton (Bowmanville, ON) scored in the third and Clemens crossed home for the second time in the evening.
In the fourth inning, Kaleigh MacIntyre (Bowmanville, ON) tripled with Greene on base to send her home. MacIntyre scored a run not long later with Chelsea Oke (Brooklin, ON) coming to the plate and hitting a single.
With neither side scoring in the fifth inning, the game ended early due to a 10-run advantage by the Lords.
Emily Glendinning (Plattsville, ON) struck out five batters in 3.0 innings pitched. Redick came in for the final two innings, allowing only one hit against nine batters faced.
The Lords built another massive lead before the Mountaineers could even go up to bat in the second game of the evening.
Hearns and Clemens teamed up for the first two runs once again in an eight-run opening inning, which saw the Lords go through the batting order and Hearns score two runs.
After Greene scored on an RBI double hit by Chelsea Oke in the second inning, the Lords added four more runs in the top of the third to take a 13-run lead.
13-0 would be the final score, with another game ending in five innings.
Chelsea Oke was on the mound to face all 18 batters, striking out six, walking two and conceding only one hit. She was also a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate, generating a pair of RBI's.
Hearns finished the game with three runs from three hits in three at bats.
Now 10-0 on the season, the Lords travel to London on Saturday for a pair of games against the Fanshawe Falcons and St. Clair Saints.
