LONDON, ON - After defeating the host Fanshawe Falcons, the Durham College women's softball team suffered their first loss of the season to the defending OCAA champion St. Clair Saints.
To begin the day, the Lords went ahead 4-0 in the first two innings with two runs scored by Grace Hearns (Napanee, ON). Fanshawe found their way on the board with a single to right field that pushed the runner home.
In the top of the third inning, Sydney Redick (Alvinston, ON) hit a solo shot over the left field wall for a home run.
Following a scoreless fourth inning, the Lords would add five more runs in the game to win it 10-1 over the Falcons.
Hearns finished the game 3-for-4 at the plate with three runs. Natalie Clemens (Marmora, ON) also had a multi-run showing with two.
Morgan Salter (Battersea, ON) pitched 7.0 innings, facing all 27 batters. She struck out six, walked one and conceded only a single run. Impressively, 71.7% of her 85 pitches through were strikes.
Chelsea Oke (Brooklin, ON) pitched 4.0 innings in the second game of the day, facing the Saints. She struck out five of 23 batters faced. Redick came in for the final 2.0 innings, conceding only two hits against nine batters faced.
St. Clair found themselves an early lead, however the Lords took their first and only lead of the game with two runs scored in the top of the third.
The Saints responded with five runs over the next two innings, handing the Lords their first loss of the season by a 6-2 score.
Hearns and Kaleigh MacIntyre (Bowmanville, ON) recorded the runs in the game for Durham, while Jocelyn Shelton (Aylmer, ON) registered two RBI's.
The Lords have two games left to play this weekend, returning to Babcock Field on Sunday to host the Lambton Lions at 11:00 AM and Humber Hawks 4:30 PM.
