OSHAWA, ON - With a second hat trick in as many nights, Sage Thomas-Roberts (Toronto, ON) helped lift the Durham College women's soccer team over the St. Lawrence Surge by a 6-1 score.
Olivia Checchia (Bowmanville, ON) was the first to score, only one minute and 19 seconds into the match to put the Lords ahead.
Thomas-Roberts scored two goals in 18 minutes, beginning with one in the 17th minute assisted from Jaime Pye (Oshawa, ON), followed by a 35th minute goal set up by Erika Bjorgum (Kingman, AB).
With the Surge trailing 3-0 coming out of the halftime break, the visitors took advantage of a loose ball in the 18-yard box to put themselves on the board and cut Durham's lead to two.
Pye scored back-to-back goals of her own in the 75th and 84th minutes to raise her total to three on the season.
Awarded a penalty kick late in the match, Thomas-Roberts put home a third goal in the 89th minute to secure the hat trick and score a total of six goals this weekend.
Outshooting the Surge 25-6, the Lords landed 15 shots on target. Kelsa O'Donoghue (Ajax, ON) stopped three of four shots on target for the Lords.
After playing on back-to-back nights, the Lords will head back to training as they prepare for another two matches in two days series next week, travelling to Sault Ste. Marie and Sudbury.
