Durham walk-off Humber to cap off two win day

OSHAWA, ON - Returning from a road trip on Saturday, the Durham College women's softball team earned two more wins at Babcock Field on Sunday afternoon, defeating the Lambton Lions and Humber Hawks.

Lambton opened the scoring with a run in the top of the first inning but Durham responded in the bottom of the second as Chelsea Oke (Brooklin, ON) scored on a single hit by Alana Smale (Port Perry, ON).

After the Lions took the lead back with a run in the top half of the third inning, the Lords responded with five scores of their own. With Jocelyn Shelton (Aylmer, ON) reaching on a fielder's choice, Grace Hearns (Napanee, ON) scored to tie the game.

At the plate, Chelsea Oke hit a triple with the bases loaded that sent Shelton, Jessica Greene (Stratford, ON) and Sydney Redick (Alvinston, ON) home. She crossed home herself in the next at bat to cap off the five-run inning.

Chelsea Oke scored again in the sixth to put after a pair of scoreless innings and Arianne Pollon (Tisdale, SK) and Abi Suffel (Whitby, ON) wouldn't be far behind her.

Defeating Lambton 9-2, Morgan Salter (Battersea, ON) picked up with the win having pitched four innings. Facing 15 batters, Salter struck out four and did not walk a batter.

Hannah Oke (Brooklin, ON) hit the mound for three innings, striking out four of 10 batters faced.

Chelsea Oke saw a lot of three's on her stat line, finishing with three at bats, runs, hits and RBI's.

The second game of the day was a high stakes matchup with the Humber Hawks, and the hype delivered.

Brilliant defensive performances forced the game into extra innings scoreless. In the top half of the eighth, the Hawks scored the first run of the game to take the lead.

In the bottom half of the inning, Greene made her way to the plate to bat with Hearns and Ryleigh Easton (Bowmanville, ON) on base. Greene hit a double into deep centre field allowing the two runners to score for the walk-off victory.

Emily Glendinning (Plattsville, ON) pitched the entirety of the game, facing 30 batters over 8.0 innings. She struck out six, walked one and only conceded one run in the game.

The Lords have Humber again on the schedule as they meet again on Tuesday, September 26 in Toronto.
