OSHAWA, ON - On Retro Night, the Durham College women's basketball team struggled to hold onto their lead out of halftime, falling 51-42 to the Seneca Sting.
Durham took an early 12-9 lead by the end of the first quarter, with Telia Campbell (Pickering, ON) and Emily Glendinning (Plattsville, ON) acting as heavy contributors with five points each.
Also impressively, Campbell grabbed seven rebounds in the opening quarter - one short of the highest total that she has had in a game all season.
In the second quarter, the Lords stayed hot with buckets from seven different players across the floor. Adding another 16 points on the board, the Lords held a 28-19 lead going into halftime.
Seneca looked like a totally different team in the third quarter, going on a 10-2 run to begin the second half. After Glendinning made another layup, the Sting went on another run, outscoring the Lords 7-2 in the final four minutes of the frame.
With the Sting's massive third quarter, they took over with a 36-32 lead through half an hour of play.
Durham found enough offensive rhythm again in the third quarter to get back in double-digit territory, scoring 10 points but they struggled to contain a Seneca team that put up another 15 points to close it out with a nine-point win for the visitors.
Campbell grabbed 18 boards in the game, her best rebounding performance of the season to date. She also added eight points, three assists and a pair of steals.
Glendinning was the team leader in points with 15, also recording 13 rebounds for a double-double performance.
The Lords are back on the court on Tuesday, February 6 with a trip to Kingston for the rescheduled game. It is scheduled to tip-off at 6:00 PM.
