BELLEVILLE, Ont. - Sage Thomas-Roberts is now the highest scoring player in the history of Durham College soccer after two goals in a 6-0 win over the Loyalist Lancers on Wednesday pushed their career total to 43.
Alexis Bayley opened the scoring in the 25th minute. After taking a corner kick, a Lancers defender attempted to clear the ball out of the box where Bayley won a race to the ball and put it just underneath the crossbar to give the Lords the lead.
As first half was ticking down, Valerie Lantaigne took a long shot from just over 35 yards out and the goalkeeper mishandled it, giving the Lords a 2-0 lead going into halftime.
Thomas-Roberts made it 3-0 early in the second half with a 52nd minute goal to tie the career goals record that Katie Watts set in 2011.Â
Bayley scored her second goal of the game in the 59th minute and that kicked off a series of three goals in 10 minutes by the visiting side to extend their lead to six.Â
Following the Bayley goal came a strike from Daniela Korosztos and the record setting second goal of the game from Thomas-Roberts to reach number 43.
The Lords took 30 shots in the match with 20 on target. Keyara Lindell saved both shots on goal to keep a clean sheet for the Lords.
Durham is set to finish off their regular season at home on Saturday, October 12 against the Centennial Colts at Vaso's Field. The afternoon will begin with a graduating senior's ceremony and kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 PM.
