Box Score 2 OTTAWA, Ont. - The men's volleyball team at Durham College improve to 3-0 on the season with a pair of wins in the nation's capital this weekend against the Algonquin Wolves and La Cité Coyotes.
Against Algonquin on Friday night, the Lords suffered their first set loss of the season in a tight 25-23 contest.
Durham would bounce back after that, responding with a trio of wins, 25-20, 25-20 and 29-27.
Petrus Kuypers finished the night with a massive list of kills on his stat line, recording 25 across four sets. He was also a force at the net with five solo blocks, in addition to six digs.
The Lords had four players in double-digit territory in the digs column, including Kyle Travis with 18, Ben Rocheleau with 14 and Tyler Jegen also with 14.
Trent Engel and Jack Stanley had impressive showings offensively with 16 and 11, respectively.
Travis played in all four sets, finishing the night with 33 assists.
Durham also benefited from seven service aces in the game.
Staying in Ottawa to meet the Coyotes on Sunday afternoon, the Lords won in straight sets, defeating La Cité by 25-19, 25-22 and 25-14 set scores.
Kuypers was again the team-leader in kills, with nine on 10 total attempts. Shane Poleon impressed with five in two sets played, while Ryan McGilvray and Stanley each had four.
Jayden Benjamin was the primary target for assists on the afternoon, registering 29 in three sets played.
Durham was well-balanced in front of the net, with seven players contributing to a team total of 11 blocks.
The Lords return home on Wednesday in a matchup against the George Brown Huskies at the Campus Recreation & Wellness Centre at 8:00 PM.
