SCARBOROUGH, Ont. - The Durham Lords men's volleyball team battled hard but ultimately fell short in a nail-biting five-set match against the Centennial Colts, losing 3-2 on Saturday afternoon.
The match saw both teams trading sets, with Centennial taking the first set 25-17. Durham responded with a strong second set, winning 25-23. The third set was another close battle, but Centennial edged out a 25-23 victory.Â
Determined to extend the match, Durham surged in the fourth set, winning 25-23 and forcing a fifth set. However, Centennial pulled away in the deciding frame, clinching it 15-10.
Piet Kuypers led the Lords' offensive effort with an impressive 14 kills and a .448 hitting percentage, while Tyler Jegen added seven kills, hitting at .353. Will Doucet also contributed significantly, recording 10 kills and adding three solo blocks to his stat line.
Setter Kyle Travis directed Durham's attack with precision, tallying 36 assists and contributing five kills himself, with a perfect 1.000 hitting percentage.
Durham's defence was resilient, with the team recording 36 digs and 10 total blocks. Ravi Hunter and Jonas Felix each added valuable digs to the defensive effort, helping to keep the Lords competitive in the longer rallies. Trent Engel also stood out at the net, posting two solo blocks and finishing with eight kills.
The Lords are back at home on Wednesday, November 6 against the Loyalist Lancers at 8:00 PM.
